The World Cup

With the World Cup upon us, I went to loonapix.com and made these pictures for the boys I sponsor.  This went to Henrique, who lives in Brasil, and who loves soccer.

A letter from me!

There are Compassion sponsors who have been sharing letters that they have written to their children.  I wrote one today to two of our 14 kids, two girls who are older and who have long hair.  I figured the girls from Africa couldn't really relate to this!  I have sponsored both girls for a very long time.  In fact, Anjali is the first child I sponsored.

Mail Day!

I wrote letters to each of my 10 compassion kids today, adding a little thing for each of them, whether a book or stickers or soccer cards or whatever seemed appropriate for the child. I decided I want to get a small story book and send a chapter a letter to Shallon in Uganda, since she reads English (and is 18 years old).

...before we leave

I've spent the morning writing letters to the Compassion Children, so they will all have something to read while we are away.

Each got a letter and something else. For Shallon in Uganda was a book about Michelle Obama. Fred in the Philippines got a book about Joseph and his technicolor dreamcoat. Pedro in Brasil got a book on instructions for making several different kinds of paper airplanes. Esther in Indonesia and Anjali in India each got instructions for string games (I'm hoping they can find string). Victor from Bolivia and Briana from Haiti each got pages from a book of "find a picture," things you are supposed to find within a photo--kind of like a Where's Waldo, but not quite as complicated. Leniel in the Dominican Republic, who is only 5, got pages of a coloring book. Wainana in Kenya got some superhero bandaids and a set of stickers with pictures of Jesus.

To Shallon

Today I made a collage of a walk that I took yesterday and printed it on high gloss paper to send to Shallon, who says she likes to walk.

(I print on high gloss paper because my printer does a lousy job on regular paper, but a lovely job on high gloss)

To Pedro

I absolutely LOVE this poster I put together for Pedro today!

And I am thrilled with how this magazine cover turned out for Anjali.

A Packet to Erick

I finally got together an introductory packet for Erick and sent it off to him today. It included a letter about our family and then sheets with pictures of everyone in the family.

I decided to try to explain Thanksgiving to our kids, so designed this page

The World Series

One of my kids -- Fred -- likes baseball, so I wrote to him about the World Series and my excitement, since "my" Giants are playing. I included a couple of newspaper pages which had color photos and there was one photo, life size, of a baseball, which I pasted on the back of sticky paper to give it some strength. I hope he likes it all.

I also got a couple of birthday cards that you can record yourself. Pedro in Brasil has a January birthday, so I recorded myself singing "Happy Birthday" in Portuguese (which we used to do frequently, so I'm good at it!). I still have to decide what I'm going to record for Briana in Haiti.

Football for Pedro

Pedro loves soccer and says he doesn't know anything about American football, so I sent him this graphic I found on the internet. I also found very simple, basic rules for football and sent it to a Brasilian friend of ours, who translated it for me, leaving the English underneath each Portuguese paragraph in case Pedro wanted to try to see how to translate it himself. I also included a package of football player cards. I haven't heard yet if he received this and if he liked it.

I am not creative!

Some sponsors create wonderful artistic things to send to their kids. I recently made this collage for Fred, supposedly to tell him something about things I like. I probably won't be doing many more of them!
