Letter from Henrique

In this form letter, I learn about Henrique's Christian learning

Dated May 8, 2014

At the project I have Bible class 1 time a week.  Because of Bible classes I've been able to learn that God is good. What I like most about Bible class is learning new Bible stories.  My favorite Bible story is David and Goliath.  What I like most about Jesus' life is the miracles of Jesus.  When I pray I ask god  for my family.

Bible verse:  "I can do all things through Christ, which strengtheneth me." --Philippians 4:13

Hello, how are you?  My name is Lucilia and I am writing on behalf of Luiz.  He isa very active boy and he likes to fly kites and play soccer.  Here at the project he participates in soccer, karate and recreation games.  A strong hug on behalf of Luiz.

Letter from Henrique

This form tells me about his medical checkup.

My last medical checkup was in March 2014
In order to do my medical examination, the doctor came to the Project.
While I was doing the exam, I had with me my mother.
During the examination I was weighed and my height was measured
The doctor gave me the following recommendations: to have good nutrition and always brush my teeth.
Because of the medical examination, I learned to take care of our health

My Dear Sponsor:

Hello.  How are you?  I'm well.  I get happy to receive your letter.  I hope that you send news soon.

My drawing for you:

Letter from Henrique

At age 7, Luis Henrique is a man of few words.  This is a form he filled out which lets me know that:

He had vacations in January and June
They last 30 days.
He likes to visit his relatives
His favorite relative is his cousin
He likes to play with his friends in vacation
He likes to go to the beach
He suggests I read Genesis 1:3 (the "in the beginning" part)

His personal message is:

Thanks for everything. I loved your last letter.

And he includes a drawing

THREE Letters

I received letters from three of my kids today.  It was a banner day!

 FROM Luiz Henrique in Brasil

This is a check off sheet where I learn that he wants to be a policeman, he would like to go to Paraiba, he wants to help his parents buy a car, he would like to celebrate his birthday with a party, he would like to meet me because he thinks I am nice.

Under the section "Questions to my sponsor" he asks "do you have any dog?"  (Apparently he never reads my letters!!!)  He also includes this drawing:

(The thing on the left looks like it might be a fire, so I'm wondering if this is a camping scene)

FROM Samuel in Kenya

Another check off sheet where I learn that the thing he likes to do best with his friends is play.  The game he likes best is football, the work he likes best is looking after cattle.  What he likes best about the project is playing.  The subject he likes best in school is mathematics.  His favorite teacher is Miss Lydia.  The place he likes to visit best is Mombasa City and what he likes to do best with his family is playing together.

His case worker writes a "message to my sponsor."

Receive much greetings from your friend Samuel.  He says that he is so happy to write to you today.  He is so grateful for the letters you send to him.  He says that he is fine.  His family is fine too.  He wants to thank you for your support towards his life.  May the Lord bless you today and forever.  Goodbye!

FROM Wainaina in Kenya (who is 16 and writes in English)

Hello!  I greet you in the name of the Lord.  How are you?  I hope you are doing well.  How about your family?  There is another joy God has granted to us.  I'm praying so hard for you and your family to be saved.  I'm doing well in school and at home.  I live near the school where I learn.  It is about 1/4 km from where I live.  It is a mixed day school and no boarding.  I enjoy being in school with my friends.  My teacher's names are as follows:  Mr. Francis, Mrs. Kupere, Mr. Artan, Mr. Gathanga and Madam Mercy.  In lour class we are about 50 pupils in one class that is form one.  In our school we wear uniform, according to the rules of the school.  We don't wear the way we want.

Thanks you for your letter.  May God bless you.

Form Letter from Henrique

This form tells me he wakes up at 6 a.m., has breakfast and lunch at home. Everyday he reviews his studies, and before bed he reads the Bible and talks to God.  His favorite day of the week is Friday.  He includes a Bible passage, "the Lord is my shepherd, I lack for nothing."and ends with May God bless you.  This is pretty much the same thing I get from him each month.  I wish there were a little something personal in it, after sponsoring him for all this time.

Letter from Luis Henrique

(no date)

In the first part of the letter, he checks off information about the climate of Brasil:

* In the city where I live the weather is usually cold during the winter.
* In the winter, my city (June, July, August) is hot and it doesn't rain
* I prefer all types of weather
* When the weather is sunny I like to play in the street
* When the weather is rainy I like to play indoors
* As I write this letter, the weather is hot and sunny

What is your favorite type of weather?

Dear Beverly,

How are you?  I am Lucilia, the Project Monitor, and I am writing on behalf of Luiz Henrique.  He is a healthy, happy and very active child who makes friends easily.  He also likes birthdays very much.  He thought it was really cool to learn what a pinata is.  Here in Brasil we have the custom of hanging up an enormous balloon filled with sweets and candy and the children have to burst it so that everything falls to the ground.  The children have loads of fun.

We hope to hear more news from you soon.  We are very happy about your love for Luiz Henrique.  We ask that you pray for Luiz and his family.

Affectionately, Lucilia, on behalf of Luiz Henrique.

Letter from Henrique

Today I had a check-off letter from Henrique telling me about his community, where I learned he lives outside the downtown area, lives with his mother, father and siblings, the houses on his street are made of brick, mud and straw.  The most common type of transportation in his neighborhood is bicycle and on foot.  And what he likes best about his community is having a place to play and his Project (The Compassion project).  He asks what my favorite color is.

He also included this drawing, which seems to represent a happy child.  Of course he's happy--he's Brasilian!

Letter from Henrique

This isn't so much a letter from Henrique as a status report from someone at the center he attends:

Dear sponsor Ms. Beverly Sykes,

Is everything fine with you?

I am Iolanda and I'm writing in Luiz Henrique's name.  He is a happy boy who has grown up strong and healthily, he has already weighed 19 kilograms and he measures 1.07 meters tall.

He lives with his mom and with his siblings and he attends the church.  Here at the project he is a friend of his friends and he likes to play ball (soccer).  He is on school vacation now and on vacation from the project as well and he will return to the regular activities in February.  Pray for him and for his family.

Thank you because you love him and believe in the life of children like Luiz Henrique.

On Luiz Henrique's behalf (monitor Iolanda)

Letter fromLuiz Henrique (sort of)

Luiz Henrique is only 5 so someone has to write letters for him.  This starts as a check-off form, where he is telling me about his friends.

Dear sponsor.  I have a lot of friends and I would like to tell you a little about them.  My best friends are Giovane and Pablo.  I met my friends at the Project.  My friends are special to me because we have fun together..  When we are together we like playing soccer.  With my friends I've learned to respect people.

His question for me is

What is a typical food in your country?

And then there is the personal note from Raquel.

Sponsor Beverly,

Hello.  How are you?  My name is Raquel and I am project monitor.  I will write on behalf of Luis Henrique; he and his family are fine.  There are a lot of frogs here.  He was happy to see your granddaughter's photo.  He is learning to read and write.

Luiz Henrique has never eaten cherries.  He was very happy to know that you started a new job as a volunteer.  We hope you will send news soon.  God bless you!

On behalf of Luiz Henrique,
Raquel

Letter...sort of...from Henrique

One thing about Brasilian kids, they don't write much!  I got a letter, sort of, from Henrique today.  It is a check-off page telling about his house:

It's brick
The floor is cement
The roof is tile
They have electricity
They get water from the river
He sleeps in a hammock
His clothes are washed in a bowl

And he has a question for me:  What is your favorite animal?

That's it.  But he did include a drawing.

Letter(s) from Henrique

Well, it sometimes happens that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.  After no mail in awhile, I received TWO letters about Henrique in Brasil, written by two different center monitors, a week apart.  They say essentially the same thing, but I will print them both...

Dear sponsor Beverly Sykes -- how are you doing?  I am Clara, the Projector's monitor, and I write on behalf of Henrique. He is a happy child who likes very much to play.  He doesn't know to read and to write (he's 5), but soon he will be writing a letter to you with his own handwriting.  Right now, he is on school vacation and he will be back to school in February.  He is attending our vacation Bible School and he said he enjoyed everything -- the games, puppet theater, and activities.  He thanks you for the gift you sent him -- he got a police car, a tractor and a ball and on recreation days he brings his ball to play with his friends.

Thank you for loving him and for believing in his future.

Love, Clara on behalf of Luiz Henrique

Hello, dear sponsor Beverly Sykes -- how are you doing?  I am Iolanda and I write on behalf of Luiz Henrique.  He is a happy child who likes to come to the Project and to attend the activities, especially recreational ones.  He is learning to copy things from the board and he is very interested in his studies.  Our vacation Bible school happened this month of January and he attended it and its theme was "we must spread love, peace and respect."  He and his mom are thankful for the gift you sent them -- he got a police car, a tractor and a ball.  Thank you for loving Luiz.

Iolanda, on behalf of Luiz.

Letter from Henrique

I agreed to sponsor Henrique in Brasil in June and this is only the second time I've had word of him. He's only 5, so someone has to write for him.

Dear Sponsor Beverly Sykes,

Hello! Is all well with you? I am Marineide, monitor of the project, and I write you on behalf of Luiz Henrique. He is a healthy and happy child, who likes to draw, aint. He is a child who interacts well with his classmates in theclassroom. One of the activities he enjoys most is the recreation.

On October 12th we had the Children's Day party and it was very cool. There were games, tramp0line, music and gifts. He loved this day.

I ask prayer for his life and for his parents.

We thank you for loving and believing in a child as Luiz Henrique.

-Marineide, on behalf of Luiz Henrique.

They also included this drawing...do you get the idea he likes cars?

Henrique

I was surprised to hear from little Henrique so soon. He is only 4, so he doesn't write letters, but he did make this nice picture for me.

The letter also included information about him -- he's 4 years old and wants to be a doctor when he grows up. He likes playing with cars, his favorite food is spaghetti, his favorite thing in school is drawing, his favorite animal is a cat, his favorite color is orange and his beat friend is Pedro.

There was also information about his family, which consists of two parents, two sisters and two brothers.

His message to me (which I suspect is not his message to me!) is "Thank you for sponsoring me! God bless you!"
